Expect the Unexpected, Part 1

June 24, 2010
While down in South Beach Florida for an event, we ran into a little snag less than 24 hours before the event was supposed to happen.  There were almost 1,000 people expecting to attend a huge beach bash blow out on the last night of the event, later to learn we had to move it.  The planning of this event happened about 8 months prior to the event start date.  We decided to have a beach party on the last night since we were in Florida and the weather would be perfect, not to hot and not too cold.  We were working with a destination management company and they were helping us with aspects of this evening.  We get on site in South Beach and about 20 hours before we were supposed to be out on the beach, the hotel told us we could not have our beach party.  Apparently no one realized what we were doing and us, being in Ohio, didn’t even think to check into something like this!  The reason we had to move our beach party was because it was turtle hatching season!  If there was a lot of noise or lights (and we had plenty of both planned) the turtles wouldn’t come ashore to give birth.

Thankfully, the hotel we were at went above and beyond and we were able to move the beach party and turn it into a pool party!  We lost the element of the sand and waves, but no one seemed to care (didn’t hurt that there was an open bar)!  We all wish we would have known about this little fact, but we understand Mother Nature had a show to put on as well!

Pool Party!
